Welcome Message
Prof. Nanqi Ren
Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice president of HIT
Chair, Science Summit on Urban Water
It is my great honor to welcome you to attend the 4th IWA Conference of Science Summit on Urban Water from November 25-27, 2018, co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and International Water Association (IWA). The forum will mainly address the current situation, challenges, and future development trends of urban water system, and will be a brain-storming and high-level academic event.
China has made tremendous progress of socio-economic development in the recent decade and for the first time "Smart City" is incorporated into the national strategic plan. As an important part of the “Smart City”, “Smart Water” is one of the important signs that embodies the level of urban management intelligence and also an important technical support for ensuring people’s livelihood in the world. This also reflects the IWA Sustainable Development Goal asking for an intelligent water management on a global scale.
China has made great efforts for the security of urban water environment and provides valuable experience to the world. Yet the urban water environment in China is still facing enormous challenges and became extremely complicated with the accelerated progress of urbanization. Focus on the sustainability of urban water, and targeting the key scientific and technical problems in this area, the Summit would provide an opportunity of gathering the world scientific communities and scientists, where participants can deliver brilliant talks, fostering potential R&D collaborations and find solutions in the area of urban water environments.
This event will bring researchers, engineers and decision makers together to outline the state-of-the-art scenario and address future perspectives for urban water both in scientific and engineering field. We are very pleased to offer this Summit and warmly welcome all of you to Harbin.
Prof. Yu Tian
Deputy Director, State Key Lab of Urban Water Resource &Environment, HIT
Executive Chair, Science Summit on Urban Water
Following the successful Summits in 2011, 2014 and 2016, the 4th Science Summit on Urban Water will be held during November 25-27 in Harbin, China. On behalf of the Organizing Committee and as Executive Chair of this event, it is my honor to welcome you to attend this event.
The aim of the Summit is to promote the development of smart and healthy urban water system. The Summit intends to become an “Olympic of Urban Water”, and will provide an interacting platform for exchange of ideas between scientists, engineers, environmentalists, managers, consultants, administrators and regulators, student researchers from other countries with the Chinese counterparts, for “a world in which water is wisely managed to satisfy the needs of human activities and ecosystems in an equitable and sustainable way”. The success of this summit will be of great importance for China’s water policy in the future but also has the potential to inspire the change of global water management for a better future. Harbin is a charming, multi-cultural city with fashion and music. We believe that we will offer you a safe and pleasant stay in Harbin during the conference. I sincerely wish to see you all on November 25-27, 2018.
